Southeastern Health’s 2019 Prostate Wellness Event: SeHealth offers FREE prostate cancer screenings in North Carolina [#SouthEasternHealth #SeHealth #AllThingsFREE]

Southeastern Health’s 2019 Prostate Wellness Event is offering FREE prostate cancer screenings to men who qualify between Tuesday, September 3, 2019 and Sept. 10, 2019 in North Carolina.

Men who qualify must be 55 to 69 years old or “at risk” and between the ages of 40 and 54. Men who are considered “at risk” are minorities or those who have a family history of prostate cancer. Patients also must have not had a prostate-specific antigen test in the last year (2018), do not have prostate cancer, and currently are not under the care of a urologist.

According to Dr. Mike Popovic, a urologist who treats patients at Southeastern Health’s Lumberton Urology Clinic, screenings are the best way to detect prostate cancer at its earliest and most treatable stage.

“Prostate cancer is the second most common cause of mortality in men. There are no specific symptoms of early prostate cancer, so it may only be detected by elevated PSA. Screening can also pick up other associated problems, such as prostatitis, benign prostatic hyperplasia or urinary issues.”
– Dr. Mike Popovic

The screening is a two-part process.

First, walk-in PSA blood draws are happening at a variety of times at 12 different Southeastern Health clinics, followed by an exam at one of 4 Southeastern Health clinics. Patients must have completed their blood work in advance to participate in the FREE exam.

The follow-up exam visits will all take place on a walk-in basis at 5:30 p.m.

Patients can choose to have their follow-up exam at either Southeastern Medical Clinic North Lumberton on Sept. 17, Southeastern Multi-Specialty and Urgent Care Pembroke on Sept. 19, Southeastern Health Center Clarkton on Sept. 24 or Lumberton Urology Clinic on Sept. 26.

Hy-Vee, Inc provides FREE heart health screenings [#HyVee #FREEHeartHealthScreenings #AllThingsFREE]

Hy-Vee, Inc. will provide FREE heart health screenings throughout its eight-state region during the month of September 2019.

Hy-Vee dietitians working out of Hy-Vee Healthy You Mobiles will offer the FREE heart health screenings to you at more than 130 Hy-Vee stores. Appointments will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.

A heart health screening is a combination of measurements and readings about certain health factors that may help in identifying potential risk factors for chronic diseases or conditions, like heart disease, hypertension or diabetes. The dietitians will collect a blood sample from a finger prick that will be used to determine cholesterol levels, triglycerides and glucose levels. They will also take resting blood pressure, measurements of height, weight and waist, and will calculate body mass index.

The entire screening process typically takes 15 to 20 minutes and all results will be reviewed and received during the screening.

Hy-Vee has partnered with the following companies to help make these screenings possible: Barlean’s, Beef Association, California Walnuts and Potatoes USA.

If you receive a screening, you will be given a Heart Health giveaway bag that includes samples, coupons and educational materials.

SacRT Forward: FREE rides on all buses and light rail trains offered by Sacramento Regional Transit in Sacramento, California [#SacRTForward #SacRT #Sacramento]

Sacramento’s main transit agency unveiled the biggest bus route redesign in its history, including extended service hours and more coordination between buses and light rail trains.

The project, called SacRT Forward, is part of a multiyear effort by the Sacramento Regional Transit District to modernize its service and operations in hopes of giving transit a stronger role regionally as the core metro area of Sacramento becomes denser and its freeways and main commuter routes more crowded.

“This is much more than changing bus routes; this is about reimagining what mobility means for the diverse communities in which we serve and getting people to places they want to go.”
– SacRT General Manager Henry Li said.

The agency is offering FREE rides on all buses and light rail trains Sunday, September 9, 2019 through Wednesday, September 11, 2019.
